Mentoring Through Challenging Times: No entrepreneurial experience? No problem. | Celebree School

Thinking about owning your own business but don’t know where to start? Celebree franchisee Kelli Amrein has got you covered.

If owning your own business has always been your dream but you don’t have a clue how or where to start, take a deep breath. Kelli Amrein of Elkidge MD had been working in the early childcare education industry for nearly two decades before she decided to take the leap into entrepreneurship and become a Celebree School franchise owner, with her first school opening this September. As someone who has just embarked on the journey of first-time entrepreneurship, here are her tips:

Passion & familiarity in an industry will take you far: To make up for your lack of experience as business owner, seek out entrepreneurial opportunities that excite you, you have a passion for, and experience in. Avoid businesses or industries that you don’t already have knowledge and familiarity in – a steeper learning curve my hinder your success.

Embrace vulnerability & commit to learning: It’s time to put pride aside. While it may be uncomfortable at first, the key to your success will lie in your ability to embrace vulnerability and ask for help. People will respect your willingness to learn and be humble. Talk to other entrepreneurs about your business and be open to receiving advice. Take what you like and leave the rest behind. Meanwhile, commit to your own learning – study up, read, take classes, etc. First-time entrepreneurship is a learning experience – commit to it.

Understand and manage your finances from the onset: Make sure you have a strong understanding of your finances, and, if you don’t feel confident in this area, hire help. Ensure you have enough capital to get started, stay on top of all your expenses, manage a budget, and set financial goals.
