3 Ways We Encourage Scientific Thinking At Daycare
When kids start to build their scientific thinking skills, they also hone their aptitude for more complex thinking and reasoning skills. That’s something we encourage through our programs in Dorsey. Here’s how we do it:
- Making time for exploration. Little ones are naturally brimming with curiosity about the world around them. We ensure they have time to safely explore and investigate to their hearts’ content. That’s true in the classroom—where plenty of natural elements may interest them—as well as when they’re spending time outdoors, too.
- Encouraging kids to draw conclusions. Kids are full of questions, and they’re constantly seeking answers! We encourage children to channel their curiosity into questions and formulate hypotheses based on observation and evidence. This can be enormously helpful for building up their observational skills, logic skills, and overall scientific thinking abilities.
- Making connections between subjects. At our daycare, we often draw connections between different STEAM subjects (science, tech, engineering, arts, and math) to engage kids further. This doesn’t just keep them interested—it also builds on their critical thinking skills, allowing them to see different subjects in a fresh light.
