How Our Day Care Instills Early Math Skills
At Celebree School of Owings Mills, our day care offers children an enriching curriculum that integrates the Seven Domains of Learning. One of those domains is Mathematical Thinking and through it, we introduce children to age-appropriate math skills and concepts through hands-on projects and engaging lessons. We also connect math across other domains, like language and literacy, so children can see how math applies to the world around them.
Some of theareas we focus on in the process include:
- Number sense. Wecount everything from fingers and toes to the days of the week, everyday objects, and more. By bringing numbers to life and connecting them to each child’s world, they will gain the knowledge and skills to understand numbers and how they apply to the real world.
- Spatial awareness. Spatial awareness involves how children perceive the physical world around them. At Celebree School of Owings Mills, we help them understand it and make sense of it by introducing and teaching them about everything from near and far to sizes, shapes, points, lines, and more.
- Measuring. Measuring time and objects is another vital area we focus on at our day care. We’ll measure objects, weigh them, and help children begin to understand amounts and concepts like less and more, as well as measure time.
