Partnering with Parents to Help Children Grow

At Celebree School of Columbia-South, we recognize that when it comes to a child’s early learning experience, nothing helps them thrive more then when teachers and parents collaborate. It isn’t purely an academic environment, but rather an atmosphere where every child can feel supported.

Something extraordinary occurs when families remain involved in their children’s education. Even though you might not always notice it right away, you can sense it when your child grins at drop-off, proudly displays their artwork, or boldly does something new for the first time. Their academic, emotional, and social development are all fueled by this connection.

Your Role Is Invaluable

First and foremost, you are your child’s most important teacher. When families and educators work together, children flourish in every area of development. In fact, research consistently shows that parental involvement plays a critical role in everything from early literacy skills to emotional regulation.

However, beyond research, what we see every day in our programs reinforces this truth. Parents contribute curiosity, encouragement, confidence, friendships, and a genuine love of learning that cannot be replicated elsewhere. Because of this, children feel more secure and motivated to explore their world.

Getting involved with your child’s school life, like asking about their day, going to an event with them, or doing small things with them at home, helps your child trust the world around them.

The Power of Presence

Kids are very observant. They pick up on little things: when you ask about their day at school, when you smile at their teacher, or when you hang up their latest arts and crafts project on the fridge. Your child recognizes these little things and ultimately it makes them think:

“My learning is important. My school is important. I’m important.”

This message builds confidence. It lets your child know they are surrounded by a team that believes in them both at home and at school.

Reinforcing Learning at Home

To encourage learning at home, you don’t need sophisticated supplies or intricate planning. Moments in daily life have a significant impact…

  • As you go to the car, keep track of your steps
  • At the grocery store, discuss colors
  • For the twelfth time, read the same book before bed (We personally love any and all Pete the Cat books!)

These everyday activities have great power! You may help your child make the connection between what they learn in the classroom and the real world by integrating small learning moments like these into your family’s everyday life.

Furthermore, this enhances abilities such as language, memory, and problem-solving while reinforcing their existing knowledge.

Celebrate Growth-Big and Small

It could be zipping his/her coat, making a new friend, or mastering a new shape, every milestone no matter how big or small, deserves to be celebrated.

By praising your child for all that they are achieving, including the small stuff, helps to improve their perception of self-worth. Not to mention, it lets them know they’re more than capable!

Simple Ways to Stay Involved

  1. Ask open-ended questions about their day
  2. Attend school events when possible
  3. Share family stories or traditions with the class
  4. Communicate with your child’s teachers regularly, receive updates, and photos using Tadpoles
  5. Read, sing, and play together at home

Together, We Grow

Children feel safe taking chances, asking questions, and broadening their horizons in a consistent, loving environment created by a strong relationship between parents and educators. Your participation allows us to develop your kiddos into self-assured learners and compassionate little humans.

Let’s continue this journey…together!
