We believe at Celebree School of Ashburn that play is the building block of learning. Structured and unstructured play builds necessary skills for our preschoolers to succeed through school and life.
Structured Play: Learning Through Fun Challenges
Structured play is when adults lead children in an activity or game that includes rules or objectives; for example, scavenger hunts, board games, or group sports. These experiences help kids practice logic, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Recently, the preschoolers went on a leaf scavenger hunt, collecting and sorting colorful leaves into different categories while investigating nature. It was a perfect combination of fun and learning-curiosity at work in the great outdoors!
Unstructured Play: Freedom to Imagine
Unstructured play is all about creativity and choice, where children decide what to play, how to play, and with whom. It could be a fort building, superhero pretend play, or simply daydreaming.
This type of play sparks imagination and independence; it lets the children think by themselves and find confidence in their abilities.
Building Confidence and Joy
Playtime gives them more than skills; playtime gives them joy. It makes them resilient, helps them connect with others, and encourages them to explore their potential.
As Oscar Wilde once said, “The best way to make children good is to make them happy.” And happiness, for children, often starts with play.
