We all know that change is a part of growing up, but that doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s always easy for little ones. Starting a new school, meeting a new teacher or sibling, or even adjusting to a different routine can leave a child feeling indifferent. Small changes can appear larger when you\u2019re still adjusting to how the world works. A big way to help is to talk about what\u2019s changing. Children don\u2019t always have the words to explain their feelings, so giving them room to ask questions can offer transparency. When you ask a child about their new environment, talking about their day can help an unfamiliar space feel more manageable. When you keep a familiar routine in place, predictable moments like bedtimes or a morning ritual can give children something comforting to look forward to. <\/span><\/p>\n

Lastly, give them a little say. Offering children <\/span>small choices<\/span><\/a> can help them feel included instead of things happening to or around them; allow them to choose an outfit or daily belongings to allow important room for their feelings. Children are expected to be excited about change and, at the end of the day, still feel nervous or sad about it, and that\u2019s totally okay because every child adjusts at their own pace.
