Getting to Know Ms. Amber: Dedicated Preschool Educator at Celebree School | Celebree School of Reston

Hi, I’m Ms. Amber!

I am inspired to work with young children because I want to see them grow, and I love to experience the joy of seeing them learn. I joined Celebree two years ago as an infant teacher, and now as a preschool 2 educator, it has been such a pleasure to see the infants grow to curious twos, who are immersed in their environment and are forming relationships with each other.

I have been an early childhood educator for 10 years, and what drew me to Celebree is the warm environment created by the owners and management and, of course, the families. Celebree has given me the opportunity to grow in my career from a lead infant teacher to a preschool two teacher. Additionally, Celebree has given me the opportunity to gain management and leadership skills by exposing me to operational duties such as opening and closing the school and problem-solving when it comes to managing teachers.

My teaching style is fun and educational. I believe that children learn best through play and engaging in activities that spark their interest. I believe in creating a fun, hands-on environment and planning activities that are interesting and fun. I know how important language and literacy are, so I ask a lot of open-ended questions.

A typical day in my class starts with school morning announcements whereby the kids say the Pledge of Allegiance and do some morning exercises to get them ready for a fun day at Celebree. This is followed by the children greeting their friends with “hello,” a high-five, a fist pump, or a hug. The children also wish well to friends who are absent. The next thing is the AM activity, which would be a focus on science, math, or art. Afterwards we go outside for playground time to meet our gross motor skills. The children come back to the classroom and help set up the table for lunch, have lunch, and prepare to go down for a nap. As soon as the children wake up, we have an afternoon snack and then go outside for our afternoon playground time. Once we get back, we do small group activities until parents come to pick up the children.

It’s very important that each child feels valued and special in the classroom. My goal is to get to know every one of my children, learning what they like the most, and talk to them, one at a time. My children know they belong, and they are welcomed in my classroom. This is so crucial, especially at this age when children are trying to develop their speech and language skills, and I have seen firsthand how a positive environment is so crucial to children meeting all their milestones.

Fun facts about me:

  • I like to ice skate.
  • Favorite classroom activity is science because it’s the messiest.
  • Favorite children’s book to read out loud—If You Give a Mouse a Cookie
  • Favorite activity when it’s raining—art
  • Three words that would describe me: always funny, happy, and silly
  • If I were to choose coffee or tea, coffee, of course!
  • A children’s song that I would rather not listen to: I am a little teacup and an itsy-bitsy spider.
