Your child just wants to be seen! Don\u2019t you want kids who grow up to share their lives with you? Well\u2026start listening and showing that you\u2019re paying attention. Narrate what they\u2019re doing, saying, and feeling. They\u2019ll eventually learn to hide their emotions in front of people. Don\u2019t let that \u201cpeople\u201d be you, too! If you see your child crying because they didn\u2019t get a cookie, say, \u201cYou\u2019re sad because you expected to get a cookie. I\u2019m hugging you because I get upset too when I don\u2019t get what I want.\u201d The next time your child shows you a few squiggles on paper, describe what you see: \u201cYou used the red crayon to make a line, and you used the blue marker to make a loop. You focused and made art!\u201d Narrating play for language development focuses on your child\u2019s language development in everyday things that interest them.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s normalize reading daily for our kids<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Listen, the only reason you\u2019re able to get these tips is that you\u2019re reading. This blog is teaching you something, it\u2019s making you feel certain things, and you\u2019re probably going to share this with someone because it\u2019s relatable. That\u2019s what books do too (captions from TV don\u2019t count), and early literacy practices like reading will improve your baby\u2019s speech. The benefits of reading to your child are endless! When you and your child bond through reading, it allows them to explore new words one-on-one with someone who cares deeply for them. Remember, you don\u2019t have to go through the whole book in one sitting. Just be sure to point out things that are interesting to them, like, \u201c\u2019 Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?\u2019 What do you think you\u2019ll see? It\u2019s looking to the right, so let\u2019s flip the page together. Put your hand on this page and flip! Oh, you want to flip the pages? Let\u2019s flip!\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tell your kid to touch some grass with you<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Get off the tablet and play.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0truly that\u00a0simple.\u00a0Play with your\u00a0kid. Sing some rhyming songs, do a puzzle, mix some pudding,\u00a0take a walk, throw\u00a0a ball.\u00a0These are all language development activities!\u00a0With play,\u00a0they\u2019ll\u00a0learn patience, gratitude, and focus. These soft skills will allow your child to absorb their surroundings without distraction.\u00a0When you slow down your life with play, you speed up your child\u2019s\u00a0neural\u00a0connections.
