Every morning, I see it: parents taking a deep breath before that goodbye hug. Sometimes it’s quick and cheerful, other times it’s full of tears and hesitation (from both sides). As both a mom and the owner of this school, I completely understand. Handing your child over for the day is one of the hardest parts of parenting, even when you know they’re in good hands.
Over the years, I’ve learned a few small things that can make those drop-offs easier, for your child and for you.
1. Keep it short and confident.
Children take emotional cues from us. A long goodbye can make them think something’s wrong. A quick hug, a smile, and a confident “You’ve got this, I’ll see you later!” helps them feel secure and ready to start their day.
2. Create a goodbye routine.
Create a ritual that builds comfort; a special handshake, a high five, or even a little phrase like “See you after snack time!” gives kids something predictable to hold onto.
3. Trust the teachers.
Our team knows how to support children through transitions. Once you leave, we’ll comfort, redirect, and help your child settle in. Most children stop crying within minutes — often before you even reach your car.
4. Talk about school positively at home.
When school is part of happy conversations, children look forward to it instead of worrying about separation. Share excitement about their teachers, friends, and fun activities.
5. Give yourself grace.
Even when it feels hard, remember you’re doing the right thing. You’re helping your child learn confidence and independence, one drop-off at a time.
Every parent goes through this. You’re not alone — and it does get easier. Before you know it, you’ll be the one asking for one more hug while they run off to play.
